EMSCULPT® vs. CoolSculpting®: What’s the Difference?

CoolSculpting® is one of the most popular body contouring procedures at our Medical Spa and across the country, and now there’s a new treatment on the scene. Q the Medical Spa at Lindsay House is one of the first facilities in Western New York to offer EMSCULPT®, a nonsurgical procedure that reduces fat while building and toning muscle. CoolSculpting and EMSCULPT each give our Rochester, NY patients a unique way to contour their bodies without any real downtime.

In this blog post, we’ll review the similarities and differences between these treatments to help you determine which option may be more beneficial for you.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a highly popular approach for men and women looking to reduce bulges or rolls of unwanted fat in specific areas, such as:

  • Double chin
  • Abdomen
  • Flanks (love handles)
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Above the knees
  • Upper arms
  • Back fat
  • Underneath the buttocks

The treatment works through cryolipolysis, a controlled cooling process that safely freezes and destroys fat cells without damaging surrounding tissue. Once the cells die, they are naturally metabolized out of the body, leading to fat loss in the targeted area.

A treatment typically lasts about an hour, during which you’ll be free to read, work on your laptop, and even nap. Once we finish the treatment with a Zimmer ZWave massage to the treated area to even out the fat reduction, you can return to your daily activities without any downtime. You may need 1 to 3 treatments to achieve your ideal results.

EMSCULPT

EMSCULPT burns fat by focusing on building and toning muscles. It works best for those who want to reduce less than an inch of fat while improving the tone and shape of the stomach and/or buttocks.

The treatment uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM®) technology—the same technology used in MRIs—to cause contractions in the muscles beyond what can be achieved through exercise.

A treatment typically lasts about 30 minutes and some patients describe the treatment as feeling like an intense workout. You’ll be able to return to your daily activities immediately, although you may feel some soreness for a few days. Most clients need 4 or more sessions, spaced 2 to 3 days apart, to achieve their desired results.

Your Treatment Experience

Before you schedule your treatment, you’ll need to meet with one of our professionals for a personal consultation. During this appointment, they’ll fully explain the procedure to you, discuss whether you are a good candidate, and review your projected results to make sure you have realistic expectations for your outcome.

You can see real patient results in our before-and-after CoolSculpting and EMSCULPT photo galleries.
