JUVÉDERM 101: All Your Questions Answered

Attractive woman looking seductively over her bare shoulder

Dermal fillers have become more popular than ever, and many new patients are interested in plumping up their skin and adding volume to the face. JUVÉDERM, in particular, is a popular dermal filler with our Rochester patients who want younger-looking skin.

Different dermal fillers are suitable for different uses, so it is important to know what makes JUVÉDERM special. In this blog post, we’ll answer some of the most commonly asked questions we hear from our own dermal filler patients.

What is JUVÉDERM? How does it work?

JUVÉDERM is a dermal filler used to rejuvenate the skin and fight the signs of aging. This injectable treatment helps add youthful volume to aging skin, all thanks to the active ingredient of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps hydrate the skin. It can fade the appearance of wrinkles and fill out thin lips or hollowed cheeks.

Do JUVÉDERM injections hurt?

Like any injection, patients may experience a tiny, quick pinch of discomfort. Many compare it to the feeling of a tiny bug bite. However, our JUVÉDERM injections are specially formulated with lidocaine. Lidocaine helps numb the treatment area and makes the procedure as painless as possible.

Does JUVÉDERM dissolve gradually?

Because hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance, it will slowly dissolve and fade into the skin over time. This process typically happens over the course of 6 months to 2 years. Depending on your specific formulation of JUVÉDERM and your unique body composition, it may dissolve at a slightly slower rate. Ask your provider about how long your results should last.

Does JUVÉDERM affect pregnancy?

There has been an insufficient number of studies on injectables and pregnancy. The few completed studies found no direct correlation between fetal health and dermal fillers or BOTOX®. However, we recommend that patients refrain from using JUVÉDERM or other fillers while they are pregnant. Results are also more consistent after giving birth when hormones are more stable.

Can JUVÉDERM be combined with other treatments?

Yes! JUVÉDERM treatments can be combined with other cosmetic procedures. Dermal fillers are often used with BOTOX to help fight wrinkles while also restoring youthful volume. Together, these injectables can create more comprehensive anti-aging results.
