Microneedling with Radiofrequency Care Instructions

Before your microneedling with radiofrequency treatment, please follow these instructions:

  • 1-2 days prior to treatment, keep hydrated by drinking plain water (8 cups/day) or hydrating formulas to improve treatment outcomes.
  • On the day of treatment, patients should thoroughly wash their face and not apply any makeup (including no mascara), lotions, sunscreen, or any other cosmetics to the skin of the treatment area prior to arriving at the facility.
  • Do not wear jewelry.
  • Please wear an open collar or wide neck shirt/basic T-shirt.
  • Expect to be at your visit for a total of up to 2.5 hours.

After your microneedling with radiofrequency treatment, please follow these instructions:

  • Cooling with an ice pack can provide relief to the treated area. Make sure to enclose the ice pack in a paper towel to avoid putting ice directly on the skin.
  • On day 1 post-treatment, you may cleanse your face with a mild cleanser and apply Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar morning and night for the first two weeks after treatment. Apply a gentle moisturizer following the application of the Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar.
  • Beginning on the day after treatment, you may apply a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunblock with an SPF of 30+. Until the skin returns to normal, when outdoors always use an umbrella, hat, or other available protection against sunlight, as UV from the sun, even on a cloudy day, may cause hyperpigmentation on the treated area.
  • Mild crusting might be noticed in the days following treatment. Crusting will disappear naturally in several days. Do not pick at any crusting.
  • On day 3, you may soak the skin in the shower for 10-15 minutes and rub very gently with a washcloth to help with sloughing.
  • If itching is significant please contact your provider.
  • Avoid sun exposure for 7 days post-treatment.
  • You should avoid vigorous activity and excess heat for at least one week.
  • Avoid harsh topical or alcohol-based products for two weeks. Avoid products that contain active ingredients such as Retinol or AHA.

Expected Skin Reactions and Results

  • Common expected skin reactions include erythema (redness), edema (swelling), transient pin-point bleeding, and slight discomfort after treatment. Pin-point bleeding should stop within minutes after application, discomfort within a few hours, and erythema and edema gradually diminish to normal in 1 to 3 days.
  • Other less common skin reactions include petechia which fade in a few days or bruising (purpura) which can take approximately a week to disappear.
  • Other skin reactions include irritation, itching, and burning sensation. These typically subside in a few hours to 1 day but may get reaggravated with heat or sweating.
  • Three days to 1-week post-treatment, brighter skin tone and a significant reduction in sebum secretion in oily skin types may be noticeable.
  • 1-3 months post-treatment, you may see continuous improvement of fine wrinkles, pores size, scars and skin laxity.
