Our Expert Pick For
The Beauty of Photofractional
Photofractional treatments provide a comprehensive, noninvasive approach to skin rejuvenation. By combining intense pulsed light (IPL) to improve skin tone with ResurFX™ fractional laser technology for enhanced texture and firmness, our experienced aesthetic nurses address a wide range of skin concerns in one session. You’ll enjoy clearer, smoother, more radiant skin with a treatment customized for you.
IPL delivers a broad spectrum of light into the skin’s surface, breaking up unwanted pigmentation, reducing redness, and evening out your complexion. Its counterpart, ResurFX, meanwhile, uses a non-ablative approach to skin resurfacing. It creates microthermal zones in the skin, leaving the surrounding tissue intact for rapid healing.
Together, these technologies work synergistically to stimulate collagen and transform your skin’s appearance and quality.
What Can Photofractional Do for You?
Photofractional can be safely used on the face and body. We offer this innovative treatment at The Lindsay House, our Rochester, New York, location, and use it to treat concerns such as:
- Stretch marks on areas like the thighs, abdomen, buttocks, and chest.
- Pigmentation issues such as age spots, freckles, and sun damage.
- Vascular lesions and redness, including rosacea and broken capillaries.
- Uneven texture and skin tone, including skin that is rough, dull, or patchy.
- Scars, both surgical and nonsurgical.
Bespoke Consultations at Q the Medical Spa
Before scheduling your Photofractional treatment, you meet with one of our skilled aesthetic nurses for a comprehensive consultation. This appointment is your opportunity to share your skin concerns, ask questions, and discuss your goals for treatment. As part of your consultation, we may perform a VISIA® Complexion Analysis to evaluate your skin’s health and establish a baseline. Your provider creates a custom treatment plan for your needs and prepares you for what to expect at your appointment.

To ensure your comfort, we’ll begin your session by applying a numbing cream and allowing it to take effect (about 20 minutes). Once your skin is numb, your provider removes the cream, places protective shields over your eyes, and begins the two-part Photofractional treatment.
You may feel warmth and a prickly or snapping sensation as the device passes over your skin. The IPL photorejuvenation half of the treatment targets pigmentation and redness on the skin’s surface. The fractional ResurFX laser, meanwhile, sends heat energy deep into the skin to promote the collagen remodeling response.
The actual treatment phase of your appointment takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas we treat. Before you leave, we apply a soothing post-treatment lotion to keep your skin hydrated and comfortable as you return to your day.
What Is Recovery Like After a Photofractional Treatment?
Recovery after Photofractional is minimal, with most clients returning to their daily activities on the same day. You may experience mild redness and swelling similar to a sunburn. These side effects can subside as quickly as a few hours after treatment or may take a couple of days to resolve, depending on the extent and intensity of your session.
Your skin may feel rough initially and start to peel and flake over the first few days. This is a normal part of the healing process as the old, damaged skin cells give way to fresh, healthy ones. Don’t pick at your skin, as this can prolong your recovery.
Some ways to care for your skin following Photofractional include keeping your skin moisturized, gently cleansing (and avoiding harsh chemicals), and wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day.
Your Photofractional Results
You’ll notice firmer, smoother skin after the first treatment, with continued improvements for up to 6 months following your final session. Your results appear gradually as the unwanted pigmentation fades, redness diminishes, and collagen production increases.
For optimal results, we typically recommend that clients complete 3 to 5 sessions spaced 2 to 6 weeks apart.
How Much Does Photofractional Cost at Q the Medical Spa?
During your consultation, your provider creates a custom treatment plan to achieve your skincare goals. The bespoke nature of this treatment plan is reflected in the cost. Your Photofractional price is based on the number of recommended sessions, the scope of your treatment, and any additional therapies you book.
Many clients take advantage of our membership options for exclusive savings on their favorite qualifying treatments.
